As part of the Territorial Plan to Combat Racism, Anti-Semitism and Discrimination, the town of Vaulx-en-Velin has renewed its partnership with Cartooning for Peace for 2022, with the aim of helping young people to develop their critical faculties through press cartoons (in and out of school).

Between September 2022 and June 2023, several copies of the “Cartooning for Peace” educational exhibition were circulated in schools and extra-curricular establishments; two days of awareness-raising and support for teaching using press cartoons were organised for teachers and youth workers; nine workshop-debates were organised in schools and five in extra-curricular establishments, with a press cartoonist and a member of the Cartooning for Peace educational team.
248 young people took part in the workshop-debates: 196 pupils and 52 in an out-of-school context. Four press cartoonists were involved.
20 professionals were trained as part of the programme: 10 teachers and 10 youth workers.

To bring the project to a close, on Thursday 1 June 2023, a debriefing session was held with education professionals, and a meeting was organised for families to hear about and appreciate the young participant’s work.

Hélène Geoffroy, Mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin, Meriem Nekaa, Director of Cabinet, and Myriam Mostefaoui, elected member of the Municipal Council, attended the event, which took place at the Beauverie school and was attended by press cartoonists Kristian and Marie Morelle.
The cartoons drawn by the young people who had taken part in the workshops were displayed for all to see, and the “Cartooning for Peace” exhibition was also set up.
A snack was shared with the young people, their families and education professionals.
Finally, an interactive and fun time was offered to the public. Two topical themes were presented: ecology and gender equality.
By applause, the audience chose the theme of gender equality. This was followed by a mini-battle of press cartoons between Kristian and Marie Morelle, on flipchart paper, with audience participation.
