The program “Cartooning for Peace and Democracy”, funded by the European Union, is launched during the Festival la Linea del Fuego, organized by CartonClub, at Museum Memoria y Tolerencia à Mexico from 3 to 8 September 2018. The festival gathers 18 press cartoonists from 14 different countries.
Cartooning for Peace team with Willis from Tunis, Damien Glez and Marion Hémery, Kurioz trainer, organize a meeting between press cartoonists and educational and penitentiary professionals. Set at Museum Memoria y Tolerencia, the training gathers about twenty special educators, working at CartonClub, Disena el Cambio, Reinserta, et le Musée Memoria y Tolerencia, Cartooning for Peace partners, and about ten press cartoonists: Alarcón, Antonio Rodriguez, Boligan, Chubasco, Cintia Bolio, Dario, El Fer, El Fisgón, Jorge Penné and Rapé.
Following the training, a pilot workshop takes place in a detention Center for under-age children, Quinta El Bosque, with Camilla de la Fuente and Alarcón on 6th September. Another pilot workshop is set at the school Secundaria Técnica No. 8 Guillermo Gonzalez Camarena with press cartoonists Dario and Jorge Penné on 7th September.
Press cartoonists and partners keep on organizing workhops in order to create a dialogue and sensitize young Mexicans through cartoons. In November, six workshops take place in penitentiary environment with the cartoonists Chubasco, Jorge Penné, Camila de la Fuente, Fernando de Anda, Ignacio Chavez and Paul Cano.
