On March 27, 2025, the last capacity building session was held for the 7 Burmese cartoonists in exile supported by Cartooning for Peace since September 2024. In total, 12 sessions were organized, led by cartoonists Zach (Philippines) and Stellina (Taiwan), project mentors, as well as by Paresh (India), Wilcox (Australia), Kak (France), President of the association, Tjeerd Royaards (Netherlands), Emanuele Del Rosso (Italy), Jimmy Spire (Uganda) and Pedro Molina (Nicaragua), press cartoonists from the Cartooning for Peace network who came to testify and share their experience.
Following this support, the Burmese cartoonists expressed their desire to continue their practice of press cartooning and created the “Cartooning for Myanmar” collective with the aim of sharing their cartoons on social media, covering the situation in Myanmar as well as international news.
You can follow their work on Facebook, Instagram and X @Cartooning4Myanmar.
Supported by Reporters without borders (RSF), this training program is part of the “Cartooning for Myanmar” project, implemented by Info Birmanie, Visual Rebellion, and Cartooning for Peace with support from the City of Paris.
It created a space dedicated to creativity and the sharing of press cartooning skills. Burmese cartoonists in exile were able to strengthen their practice while developing a professional network.
An exhibition of their cartoons is scheduled to take place in Paris in the coming months, at the initiative of our partners Info Birmanie and Visual Rebellion Myanmar.
