From January 2025, the Bibliothèque Publique d’Information (BPI) Centre Pompidou will be offering its Profession reporter programme in a format of short lectures: in one hour, discover an aspect of journalism, with a dialogue between a journalist and a specialist on the subject.
Closely associated with caricature, press cartoons flourished in the 19th and 20th centuries, with the mass production of printed newspapers. Whether they provoke laughter, discomfort or even indignation, press cartoons invite us to see current events from a different angle, to reflect and develop our critical faculties. The subversive nature of press cartoons and their close link with current events – often political – make them an instrument of protest and one of the levers of freedom of expression.
For this first event, find out more about press cartoons with “The 1001 lives of press cartoons” event: what is its role, its history, but also its future in the face of the increasing number of challenges to it, on 20 January 2025 at 7pm.
