Cartooning for Peace participes to the world forum Normandy for Peace

Cartooning for Peace takes part for the first time in the Normandy World Forum for Peace.

The Normandy Region is organising the 5th edition of the Normandy for Peace world forum on the 23rd and 24th of September 2022 at the Abbaye aux Dames in Caen. The theme of this edition is “Down with walls! These confinements that make wars” and will host conferences, debates, workshops as well as a Village for Peace.

On this occasion, Cartooning for Peace is bringing together three emblematic press cartoonists to take part in the following round table on the 24th of September at 4:30pm:

“Press cartoonists: a high-risk profession”

Symbols of freedom of expression, press cartoonists have always been a target of choice for authoritarian powers – political or religious – who do not tolerate criticism and satire. All over the world, many cartoonists are subject to censorship, persecution and are forced to flee their countries when they are not already imprisoned or, even worse, murdered (as the cartoonists of Charlie Hebdo were in January 2015).

The testimonies of cartoonists Gábor Pápai (Hungary), Denis Lopatin (Russia) and Hossien Rezaye (Afghanistan) show how fragile and how essential the profession is for democracy.

Moderated by Vladimir Vasak, a senior reporter at Arte

Cartooning for Peace will also be showing press cartoons from around the world during the following debates:

Journalists: voices from beyond the walls
Space: infinite covetousness
Lifting the walls of inequality

Internet: New openings, new borders
