Indeed, from March to May 2020, the partners were alerted to a significant number of attacks against cartoonists – far more than in the same period of 2019 – largely due to the COVID-19 crisis. They are also concerned about the economic consequences of the crisis on a profession that has already been greatly weakened.
The partners therefore call for respect for the free expression of cartoonists, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and for solidarity with a profession that is fundamental to our democracies.
