Let’s go for sport! Press cartoons and citizenship – Educational exhibition

Exhibition downloadable online – middle and high school

In 2024, the Olympic and Paralympic Games take place in France. Sport is the theme of the year! The world of sport is a reflection of our society, the way it works, its values, but also its downsides: discrimination, sexism, money, doping, political issues, pollution, etc.

Cartooning for Peace is using press cartoons to tackle these issues with a new educational tool: “Let’s for for sport! Press cartoons and citizenship”, comprising an exhibition of press cartoons (can be used in both French and English), activity sheets, an accompanying document and podcasts (all three only in French).

This educational tool has been designed to enable as many education professionals as possible to carry out educational activities on these subjects. Aimed at young people in France and in French-speaking schools, it is freely accessible and can be downloaded free of charge.

This educational tool was developed jointly with a group of highly committed young participants from the Paris Anim’ Jacques Bravo and Paul Valeyre centres in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. Thank you to Mariam, Mamane, Nathanël, Lukas, Alva, Valentin, Isamël, Mohammed, Adam, Tesnim, Aya, Timothée, Foucheny and Galinia.

In October 2023, these young people met Rodho, a press cartoonist and member of Cartooning for Peace, to work on press cartoons. Accompanied by teams from Cartooning for Peace and the Paris Anim’ centres, they chose the key cartoons for the themes of the exhibition, and prepared and conducted interviews with top sportsmen and women.

To coincide with the release of the new educational tool “Let’s go for sport! Press cartoons and citizenship”, Cartooning for Peace is launching a #Cartoon Youth Challenge open to young people aged 13 to 25, all over the world.

The aim? For everyone to express themselves by creating a cartoon on one of the themes covered in the educational tool.

Throughout March and until the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024, Cartooning for Peace is inviting young people to publish their cartoons.

As education professionals, you can also publish the cartoons of the young people you support on your school’s website and inform us by email to pedago@cartooningforpeace.org or directly on social media using the hashtags #cartooningforsport and #cartoonyouthchallenge.
