Cartooning for Peace is setting up a new partnership for 2023 with the Prison Administration Directorate (DAP) for a project entitled “Press cartoons: a tool for media education and citizenship in prisons”.
This project offers a reflection to the prison public on themes linked to current events through three exhibitions: “Cartooning for Peace”, “Draw me Ecology”, “All Migrants!”
Press cartoons are used to help teachers, cultural professionals and prison staff to raise awareness of the media and develop critical thinking.
In 2023, 30 workshops (15 double workshops, a workshop-meeting and a practical workshop on press drawing) will be offered to enable a workshop between prisoners and a press cartoonist: discovery of the profession, mediation around the exhibition, discussions on the themes of the exhibition and notions linked to freedom of expression and practice of press cartoon are on the schedule.
Cartooning for Peace is also proposing to set up an annual press cartoon competition, aimed at the prison population, with the aim of promoting the works produced during the workshops.
