Educational projects in 2025

France

year 2025

Cartooning for Peace uses smiles to raise awareness of society’s major problems, using the strong educational value of press cartoons.

At the start of 2025, several educational projects are underway…

Five projects and partnerships are renewed:

  • with the town of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine – Project based around the exhibition ‘Draw me the War’ with the Blaise-Cendrars media library in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine: 10 groups of young secondary school students will be able to visit the exhibition and meet a press cartoonist for a discussion workshop and a practical press cartooning workshop. A total of 20 workshops are planned as part of the project.
  • with the town of Vaulx-en-Velin – Project as part of the Territorial Plan to combat Racism, Anti-Semitism and Discrimination, with the town of Vaulx-en-Velin, based on the exhibition ‘Draw me Gender Equality’: 2 groups from after-school centres, after visiting the exhibition, will benefit from a double workshop with a cartoonist (debate and practical work); 1 group from the local mission and 5 schools (collège / lycée) in the town will also receive the exhibition and a workshop-debate. 14 workshops are planned as part of the project.
  • with the Prison Administration Department – Partnership with the Prison Administration Department (French Ministry of Justice) for interventions (double-workshops, debate and practice) in 15 penitentiary centres throughout the year. A total of 30 workshops are planned as part of the partnership.
  • Intermédia 78 (Yvelines) – This project, implemented in partnership with the Intermédia 78 organisation (Yvelines library organisation), is being repeated in 2025 with the ‘All Migrants!’ exhibition, which will be on show throughout the year in 9 media libraries in the area. A double workshop (debate and practical work) will be organised in each media library with a press cartoonist for a class (9 double workshops, 18 workshops in total) – Partnership under renewal.
  • with the Chesnay-Rocquencourt media library (Yvelines) – Cartooning for Peace is providing the library with the ‘Draw me Gender Equality’ exhibition. 1 training course for education professionals and 4 workshops will be organised.

4 training courses for education professionals (1 per project) are planned as part of the projects in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, Vaulx-en-Velin, Le Chesnay and with the Intermédia 78 organisation.

Two new partnerships are launched:

  •  with the Haute-Garonne Departmental Council – Cartooning for Peace has become a partner of the Haute-Garonne Departmental Council for the 2024-2025 school year as part of the ‘Secular and civic education programme’. Based around the ‘Cartooning for Peace’ exhibition, the project offers to make it available to 1 school in the city of Toulouse for one month, giving all teachers the opportunity to use it to work with their pupils on the themes addressed by the cartoons – fundamental freedoms, human rights, discrimination – as well as 3 workshop-debates for three classes.
  • with the Château de Versailles – Île-de-France Region – Begun in November 2024 with the ‘Cartooning for Peace’ exhibition, this project, coordinated by the educational team at the Château de Versailles, brings together 12 high-schools, two classes per lycée, i.e. 24 classes, who take part in 8 conference-debates and 24 practical workshops. The project will conclude in April 2025.

During the above-mentioned projects and meetings, the young participants and prisoners have the opportunity to discover what press cartoons are, to learn how to decipher them, to find out about the profession of press cartoonist, his or her work and cartoons, and his or her commitment. The idea is to open up a space for reflection and debate between the participants, and to develop their critical thinking skills by forming their own opinions. By looking back at the cartoons in the exhibition and the cartoonist’s own work, participants can open up the debate on fundamental freedoms and human rights.
