Colmar

On Friday 3 February, Cartooning for Peace organised a workshop-debate between the press cartoonist Piet and 4th grade students from the Victor Hugo school in Colmar. This meeting took place in the framework of the partnership between the association and the European Collectivity of Alsace.

Organised at the Hotel of the European Collectivity of Alsace in Colmar, the aim of this meeting was to raise awareness of press cartoons among secondary school pupils and to discuss with them the issues of discrimination, freedom of expression and human rights. These discussions were based on the “Drawings for Peace” exhibition, which was on display at the event.

This workshop was the culmination of a long pedagogical project carried out by the Victor Hugo school team on human rights. Four classes from the school (as well as 7 classes from the Georges Forlen school in Saint-Louis) were also made aware of these themes by their teachers and a young volunteer on civic service from the European Collectivity of Alsace. In addition, a second workshop will be organised in Strasbourg on 10 March, with a class of 4e from the Louis Pasteur secondary school.

At the same time, the pupils were able to visit the exhibition “Democracy: a new hope?” created for the 10th anniversary of the Council of Europe’s World Democracy Forum and illustrated by press cartoons from around the world. It can be seen :

– at the Hôtel de la Collectivité européenne d’Alsace in Colmar until 17 February

– at the Hôtel de la Collectivité européenne d’Alsace in Strasbourg from 9 March to 6 April
