Cartooning for Peace travelled across Asia, going to the Philippines and Singapore! From May, 6 to 8, with the EUNIC, the association organises a meeting between 5 European cartoonists (Bob Katzenelson, Thomas Plassmann, Miriam Wurster, Philippe Baumann et Plantu) and 6 Filipino cartoonists. The cartoonists launch a dialogue about peace, freedom of expression and intercultural exchange.
The cartoonists are invited to spend one day in Filipino newspapers. The outcome of this experience is the publication of several cartoons in the local press! The event catches the attention of CNN Philippines and Al Jazeera Philippines. The two following days events take place in universities: presentation of the exhibition “Cartooning for Peace”, masterclass, conference, interviews and drawing competition…
During the reception that had been organised in honour of the association, Mohager Iqbal, chief negociatior of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, is present. Plantu had made a drawing of him which had been released in thePhilippine Daily Inquirer -a beautiful symbol of peace in a country facing religious tensions! The exhibition “Cartooning for Peace” is also presented during the reception.
Following these “cartoons days” in the Philippines, Plantu goes to Singapore on the 11th of May in order to give a conference about Cartooning for Peace.
