Cartooning for Peace at the European Parliament to present its report on the situation of threatened cartoonists around the world

European Parliament

Belgium
Brussels
14 February 2024

On Wednesday 14 February 2024, Kak, President of Cartooning for Peace, appeared before the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights to discuss the situation of press cartoonists under threat around the world and to present the report “Cartoonists on the line”, published in November 2023, alongside Terry Anderson, Executive Director of Cartoonists Rights, the report’s partner.

A replay of the presentation is available (from 3.45pm to 4.30pm):

The presentation of the report was followed by a question and answer session with MEPs, who focused mainly on the specific nature of press cartoonists vis-à-vis journalists, particularly in terms of protection, the emergence of new challenges with the arrival of artificial intelligence, and the decline in the number of professional press cartoonists worldwide.
