In mid-January, an epidemic of coronavirus appeared in China, particularly in Wuhan. Cases of infection are now counted more broadly and include “clinically diagnosed” cases, which has brought the results much closer to reality as they have so far been underestimated by the authorities. The current death toll is 60,000 confirmed cases and at least 1,355 deaths in China. This is far more than the figures announced recently.
The Chinese doctor Li Wenliang, however, had warned at the end of December but was immediately repressed by the regime, which accused him of spreading rumours. The 34-year-old finally succumbed to the disease, which led Chinese citizens to express their discontent and accuse the local authorities of having been slow to react to the first signs.
Since these events, the highest official of the Chinese Communist Party in Hubei, Jiang Chaoliang, has been dismissed from his post.
New types of soldiers have appeared to try to manage the epidemic throughout the country and the virus has already contaminated several regions of the world.
