Several weeks of violent clashes defeated Evo Morales: his disputed re-election last October plunged the country into a deep crisis for several weeks. On 10 November, he called for new elections to try to calm the situation, but the clashes did not stop and, the next day, under pressure from the army, he had to resign and go into exile in Mexico where he was offered asylum.
Military coup for the left, just outcome for the right…. On 12 November, Jeanine Añez, Vice-President of the Senate, proclaimed herself interim President under dubious conditions and called for new elections in January. But the divide is likely to widen for a long time to come, in Bolivia and throughout Latin America…
