CELESTE

Kenya

Celeste began her design career in the 2000s illustrating children’s books while studying art at the University of Nairobi’s School of Design and Development Architecture. She was then appointed as the character design manager and art director for the Disney-commissioned animated series Tinga Tinga between 2007 and 2010. In 2011, she began drawing for the People Daily Newspaper in Kenya, making her the first female newspaper editorial cartoonist in East, Central and East Africa. In 2016, she began drawing cartoons and illustrations for community impact and change in collaboration with various local and international NGOs in Nairobi, while occasionally publishing for The Nairobi Star Newspaper. She is a member of the Association of East African Cartoonists (KATUNI) and the Association of Animation Artists (AAA). Celeste participated in the Cartooning for Peace operation organized at the Alliance Française in Nairobi in 2022.
