On 6 October 2026, the fifth hearing in the trial of Turkish cartoonist Doğan Pehlevan took place. He was being prosecuted for ‘insulting the president’ following posts from an X account which he denies having authored. During the hearing, his lawyers pointed out that ownership of the X account had not been established. The court nevertheless sentenced Doğan Pehlevan to a suspended prison term of 11 months and 20 days, pursuant to Article 299 of the Turkish Penal Code.
