CARICARTOONS: March 8, 2026 – International Women’s Rights Day

CAMPAIGN

8 March 2026

On March 8, International Women’s Rights Day, Cartooning for Peace (CFP) and Europeans Without Borders (ESF) are joining forces around CARICARTOONS, a campaign celebrating women’s rights.

As women’s rights face a reactionary backlash, it is important to raise public awareness: wherever women and feminist organizations are attacked, freedoms are extinguished, countervailing powers recede, and authoritarian regimes thrive. Drawing for women’s rights means drawing for democracy.

TRANSFORMING CARTOONS INTO ANIMATED FILMS

CARICARTOONS celebrates women’s rights through a series of socially conscious editorial cartoons created by Nani (Spain-Colombia) and Jorge Penné (Mexico), members of CFP. These cartoons have been brought to life by the ESF team and turned into high-impact animated short films, which will be broadcast around March 8, 2026, by a wide network of media partners: ARTE, CANAL+, TRACE TV, PATHÉ CINÉMAS, and committed partners: Amnesty International, Equipop, WECF, Le Planning Familial and Briser la Loi du Silence.

The campaign’s media partners will ensure widespread, multilingual dissemination of the content produced, accompanied by online public debates moderated by journalists, cartoonists, and media literacy experts.

About the organizers

Européens Sans Frontières (ESF) is an association dedicated to educating people about European citizenship and combating disinformation. It develops participatory projects combining art, debate, education, and the production of animated films with a strong social and civic focus.

To bring the press cartoons to life, ESF teamed up with animation studio IDside, renowned for its accessible and committed artistic approach. Together, they have created six powerful animated short films, each conveying a universal message translated into several languages. Thanks to IDside’s expertise, the drawings take shape, movement, and voice in a visual style that is both sensitive and striking, capable of reaching an intergenerational audience.
