Turkish cartoonists Baruter and Ozer Aydogan found guilty of insulting Erdogan

Turkish cartoonists Bahadir Baruter and Özer Aydogan were prosecuted for “insulting Erdogan” for a cartoon published on the cover of Penguen, a Turkish satirical magazine.

The cartoon depicted Erdogan meeting two officials: the gesture of one of them would refer to a Turkish insulting gesture to treat his homosexual partner. Prison sentences (14 months) were originally imposed on March 24 before being commuted to a fine (7,000 Turkish Liras or 2400 euros).

This trial is part of a recent wave of prosecutions for “insulting Erdogan” against journalists, cartoonists and artists in Turkey.
