Cartooning for Peace has been pleased to learn that the Chinese cartoonist and human rights defender Jiang Yefei was finally released on 30 July 2022, after serving his 6.5 year sentence. As a reminder, he had been convicted of “inciting subversion of state power” and “illegal crossing of a national border” in July 2018.

The Chongqing first court sentenced the Chinese cartoonist Jiang Yefei to six years and half in jail for « inciting subversion of state power » and « illegally crossing a national border » according to Reporters Without Borders and PEN America in their statements that Cartooning for Peace would like to echo.
Our organisation reinforces the willing of fighting against breaches in freedom of speech, including several press cartoonists in the world.
