“Cartooning for Peace & Governance” is a project implemented with UNESCO Somalia and supported by Australian Aid (the Australian Agency for International Development). Its aim is to raise awareness among Somali artists of the potential of press cartoons as an educational and awareness raising tool for promoting peace, governance and social justice.

An online training course run in English by Cartooning for Peace for 20 young Somali artists is held on 24 and 25 July 2023 in the presence of local facilitators on site and international cartoonists online; Alaa Satir (Sudan) and Jimmy Spire Ssentongo (Uganda).

The discussions enable participants to gain a better understanding of the role of press cartoons and the challenges of freedom of expression, to help develop their critical thinking skills, and to consider the use of press cartoons as an educational tool in their future peace-building initiatives.
