On 24 September 2026, Cartooning for Peace celebrated its 20th anniversary at a gala evening dedicated to the theme of democracy.
On this occasion, Cartooning for Peace and Dessinez Créez Liberté ran sessions for Year 8 media studies pupils at Samuel Paty Secondary School (78700 Conflans-Sainte-Honorine) and Year 9 media studies pupils at Georges Rouault Secondary School (75019 Paris).
During workshops co-led by editorial cartoonists, the pupils learnt about the profession and the driving forces behind editorial cartooning, which plays a vital role in upholding democracy and freedom of expression.
On the afternoon of the event, the 45 secondary school pupils gathered at the Théâtre de la Concorde to bring their messages to life. Working in pairs and supported by editorial cartoonists, they created four collaborative murals on themes close to their hearts: the environment, gender equality, living together, peace, racism…
Pupils from both secondary schools were interviewed to share their views on democracy and the actions needed to defend it.
These murals were displayed during the evening event, which gave pride of place to young people, the key players in the world of tomorrow.
