“All Migrants!” in Brussels in the framework of the ICORN Summit

Bourse de Bruxelles
Exhibition "All migrants!"
Belgium
Brussels
from 21 March to beginning of June 2023

From 21 March to beginning of June 2023, Cartooning for Peace presents its exhibition “All Migrants!” at the Brussels Stock Exchange, in the framework of the annual meeting of the International Cities of Refuge Network (ICORN), which will be held from 22 to 24 March 2023 in the city of Brussels during the Passa Porta 2023 festival.

With a long-standing commitment as a member of ICORN, the City of Brussels and the Passa Porta International House of Literature, in close partnership with the Théâtre national Wallonie-Bruxelles, are generously hosting the ICORN 2023 network meeting, with the participation of Cartooning for Peace.

Cartooning for Peace and the City of Brussels are opening the event to the outside world and extending it to the public space with an exhibition of press cartoons that reaffirms the joint efforts of all partners to help cartoonists and other artists who are endangered because of their work.

“ALL MIGRANTS!”

The exhibition “All Migrants!” traces the complex journey of migrants through press cartoons from around the world. From the reasons for leaving to the process of integration in a new country, via the obstacles encountered during their journey, the press cartoonists analyse in a few lines this major issue for our societies. Their pencil strokes break down prejudices, denounce the rejection of foreigners and show the contribution and richness of diversity.

Exhibition from the book “Tous migrants !” (2017, Cartooning for Peace collection, Gallimard editions) – Prefaced by Benjamin Stora, French historian, the book includes 60 press cartoons presenting an international point of view on the migration phenomenon.

“All Migrants!” is on display at the Brussels Stock Exchange from 21 March to beginning of June 2023, with works by members of the Cartooning for Peace network and former ICORN residents: Khalid Albaih (Sudan), Ali Dorani (Iran), Pedro X. Molina (Nicaragua) and Mana Neyestani (Iran).

“HOPE AND PAPERS” MURAL BY ALAA SATIR

A new mural will also blossom in the Brussels public space of the Laeken pool from September 2023. It will be created by Sudanese artist and activist Alaa Satir, also a member of Cartooning for Peace, known for her work on women’s rights and the Sudanese revolution of 2018.
