The French Institute of Tunisia and Cartooning for Peace organize a meeting of Cartoonists with many from Maghreb on October, 29 2013 at the International Books Fair of Tunis. BAKI (Algeria), Chedly BELKHAMSA (Tunisia), Lotfi BEN SASSI (Tunisia), DLOG (Tunisia), Nidhal GHARIANI (Tunisia), Damien GLEZ (Burkina Faso), Gueddar (Morocco), Nadia KHIARI (Tunisia), Pierre Kroll (Belgium), Tawfiq OMRANE (Tunisia), PLANTU (France), Nizar Ali SIALA (Libya) and SLIM (Algeria) are present.
What is the role of cartoonists when it comes to Maghreb and African political situations? Cartoonists speak about their experiences and their work as artists and journalists. The discussion and debate result in an opportunity to present cartoonists’ works : all of them are promoting freedom of speech and a better understanding and mutual respect between people of different cultures and beliefs by using editorial cartoons as a universal language.
During their stay in Tunis, Plantu and cartoonists also met the Tunis Institute of Fine Arts student (Issbat), on Monday October, 28 and the Institute of Press and Information Sciences students (IPSI) on October, 29.
