To mark International Democracy Day, Cartooning for Peace is launching a social media campaign.
In the face of growing pressure on the media, the spread of disinformation and attacks on freedom of the press in many parts of the world, Cartooning for Peace is launching a campaign of cartoons to mark International Democracy Day. Through the eyes of its cartoonists, this campaign invites us to reflect on contemporary democratic challenges and the importance of defending fundamental freedoms.
Political cartoons, acting as both a barometer and a watchdog of democracy, thus serve as a reminder of the vital role played by freedom of expression and public debate. In an era marked by crises, tensions and isolationism, Cartooning for Peace reaffirms, through humour and commitment, that democracy can also be defended through cartoons.
