Cartooning for Peace will participate in the International Comics Festival organised by the Cité de la bande dessinée in Angoulême on 6 November 2025, during a round table discussion on freedom of expression in press cartoons.

Every year, these meetings create a space for analysis and debate around comics in their artistic, cultural, economic, social and societal dimensions. This major event brings together professionals from France and abroad to exchange ideas through conferences, discussions and round tables.

After addressing topics such as the situation of authors, the heritage of the 9th Art, the links between comics and cinema, and the Francophonie, the 2025 edition will be devoted to the creative freedom of comic book authors.

  • Round table (2pm-3pm) – Freedom of press cartoons: how to deal with hot topics?
Organised in partnership with Cartooning for Peace, this meeting will address the limits to freedom of expression for press cartoonists around the world, sensitive or forbidden subjects, and the risks faced by those who use cartoons as a tool for civic engagement.

Sophie Brondel, Head of International Development and Advocacy at Cartooning for Peace
Thibaut Soulcié, French press cartoonist and comic book artist
-Lisa Mandel, French comic book author, press cartoonist and publisher
