Press cartoons committed to a fairer world – AFD – Agence française de développement

since 2021

To carry out its actions to raise awareness, educate for citizenship and international solidarity, and combat inequality Cartooning for Peace has been supported by the French Development Agency (Agence française de développement) – AFD since 2021.

Cartooning for Peace raises awareness of human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among adults, young people, education professionals and press cartoonists, while promoting the need for action and strengthening their skills and capacity for action. Through its actions, Cartooning for Peace aims to present the defense of human rights as a necessity for achieving the SDGs by 2030.

As a content publisher, Cartooning for Peace provides editorial and pedagogical expertise in the use of press cartoons as a means of triggering debate. Cartooning for Peace mobilizes its network of 344 cartoonists in 78 countries (in 2024) to serve its mission of general interest, as well as its network of partners to ensure the dissemination of resources and the mobilization of audiences, in France and elsewhere. Cartooning for Peace encourages commitment to human rights through press cartoons, produces content and organizes meetings to develop critical thinking and reflection on inequalities in society.

Through this project, 750,000 adults and 1.5 million young people are reached by press cartoons denouncing global inequalities. In addition, 600 education professionals are trained in press cartoon pedagogy, and 10,800 young people meet and exchange ideas with press cartoonists to strengthen their critical thinking skills. Initiatives to promote young people’s drawings in connection with the challenges of the SDGs and human rights are also encouraged.
