To mark its 20th anniversary, Cartooning for Peace is presenting, for the first time, the exhibition “Let’s defend democracy! ’, jointly supported by the City of Strasbourg and the association Journalisme et citoyenneté, to coincide with the World Forum for Democracy (2 and 3 November at the Council of Europe) and the European Journalism Conference (4 to 6 November) in Strasbourg – two unmissable events open to the public, offering an opportunity to reflect together on the future of our democracies.
Comprising 20 editorial cartoons from around the world, taken from the book “Défendons la démocratie ! ”, published by Éditions de La Martinière, it illustrates the many threats currently facing our democracies.
But the cartoonists at Cartooning for Peace are determined not to give in, believing that the struggle for democracy – far from being on its last legs – needs to regain its full vigour in these rapidly changing times. The art, humour, critical thinking and irreverence of political cartoons, just like the commitment of civil society, are excellent antidotes to the dark forces that threaten us and further proof that another world is always possible.
The exhibition opening will take place on Thursday 5 November at 12.15 pm at Quai des Bateliers, in the presence of Hervé Moritz, the city’s councillor for European and International Relations, and Jérôme Bouvier, president of Journalisme & Citoyenneté.
