from 9 to 10 January 2024

As a tribute to the attack on the editorial offices of Charlie Hebdo on 7 January 2015, and in partnership with Cartooning for Peace, the Brassart School wanted to put press cartoons at the heart of an innovative teaching initiative for the 2nd time, which has now become a must-do exercise.

Students in their 2nd year of the Graphic Arts Illustration course were given the chance to try their hand at press cartoons in a battle between all the BRASSART campuses in France.

The cartoonist Truant, member of the organisation, took part in the event, giving a masterclass beforehand to talk about his experience, give his advice and present Cartooning for Peace.

The two themes of the battle were proposed by students from the Paris and Bordeaux schools of new journalism: the return of retro brands to our everyday lives, and mental health in football.
After selecting the theme of their choice, each student then chose the category they wished to represent from among three possibilities: cartoon, comic strip and editorial illustration.

Truant took part in the jury for the battle, which rewarded six winning students from six different BRASSART campuses: Discover the winning cartoons.
