For the fourth consecutive year, and in tribute to the attack on the editorial staff of Charlie Hebdo on 7 January 2015, École Brassart, in partnership with Cartooning for Peace, is placing press cartoons at the heart of an innovative educational initiative that has now become an essential exercise.
Second-year students in the Graphic Arts Illustration programme had the opportunity to experiment with press cartooning in a competition between all BRASSART campuses in France. Cartoonist Rodho, a member of the association, took part in the event, giving a masterclass to share his experience, offer advice and present Cartooning for Peace.
The two themes for this battle were proposed by students at the New Journalism School in Paris and Bordeaux: ‘Women in Formula 1’ and ‘Bodybuilding, the obsession of a generation’. After selecting their chosen theme, each student then chose the category they wanted to represent from three options: political cartoons, comic strips and editorial illustrations.
Rodho was on the jury for the competition, which awarded prizes to six winning students from the campuses.
