Cartooning for Peace in Taiwan

Cartooning for Peace is visiting Taiwan from 11 to 20 November 2026.

Educational project on the theme of artificial intelligence

As part of an educational project developed in partnership with the French Office in Taipei and the City of Paris, Cartooning for Peace is running a programme in Taichung based on the educational resource ‘Artificial Intelligence, Rights First!’, attended by Kak, president of Cartooning for Peace and a political cartoonist, and Stellina, a cartoonist and member of the network based in Taipei.

Cartooning for Peace is running a training course for Taiwanese French teachers, as well as workshop-style discussions with pupils from secondary schools in Taichung, to explore the key issues surrounding the roll-out of artificial intelligence and its potential implications for human rights.

Taking part in the Night of Ideas

Cartooning for Peace is taking part in the Night of Ideas, organised on Thursday 19 November at Hsinchu University by the French Office, on the theme of issues relating to technological innovation. Kak and Stellina will be drawing live at the event. ‘Can we stop the technological race?’ is the theme of this year’s event. Organised by Usbek & Rika, the event once again takes the form of a Tribunal for Future Generations, addressing an issue that reflects Taiwan’s central role in global technology, semiconductor and innovation ecosystems, as well as the major ethical, social and political challenges associated with the acceleration of technology.

Press conference

On Friday 20 November, a press conference organised by Cartooning for Peace will take place at the offices housing the Taipei branch of Reporters Without Borders, with their kind cooperation. At the event, Cartooning for Peace will present its international work and raise awareness amongst the media in attendance about editorial cartoons, with the participation of Kak, president of Cartooning for Peace, and Stellina, an editorial cartoonist and member of the network.

Meet-and-greet and book-signing

On Friday 20 November, a book signing event is being organised by the French bookshop Le Pigeonnier from 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm in Taipei, featuring Kak and Stellina, as well as Pierre Haski, a journalist specialising in geopolitical issues and president of Reporters Without Borders.

Programme for the book signing event:

‘Defending democracy in the face of the rise of authoritarianism around the world’

Replaced by a resurgence of power struggles and conflicts, the global geopolitical balance has been thrown into disarray. Political, social, economic and environmental crises are multiplying, and there is no shortage of reasons to be concerned about the future. Faced with the staggering reality of a world that is in turmoil, regressing and causing anxiety, the power of images – through the mark they leave on our memories – helps us to realise the pivotal and historic moment we are currently experiencing. How can we revitalise a democracy that seems to be running out of steam? Art, humour, critical thinking and the irreverence of political cartoons, just like the commitment of civil society, are excellent antidotes to the gloomy sentiments that threaten us and further proof that another world is always possible.

The bookshop is hosting a book signing for *La bascule du monde: regards croisés entre photographes et dessinateurs de presse* and *Défendons la démocratie*, books by Cartooning for Peace published by Éditions de La Martinière.

Cartooning for Peace in the Republic of Korea

Following on from the educational project carried out in Taiwan, the political cartoonist Stellina will then travel to the Republic of Korea from 24 to 26 November to lead six workshop-discussions in six schools in Seoul, as part of an educational programme organised by the Institut français based on the exhibition ‘Artificial Intelligence: Rights First!’, conceived by Cartooning for Peace.
