Ukraine: Russia torpedoes peace negotiations

On the night of 2 to 3 November, US envoy Steve Witcoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss the peace plan for Ukraine. No compromise was reached on the 28 points of the text drawn up after a month of negotiations between Russia, the United States, Ukraine and Europe, despite the collusion between Russian and American diplomats revealed last week by the American press.

Putin will not budge on any of his demands: recognition of the occupied territories, withdrawal of Ukrainian forces and limitation of their means of defence. While pretending for weeks to be open to negotiations, he has intensified strikes and his army’s ground advance in Ukraine. Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Vladimir Putin threatened Europe, which is struggling to prepare its defence against a possible Russian offensive: ‘We have no intention of waging war on Europe, but if Europe wants to and starts, we are ready right now.’
