The vaccination campaign is a real – labyrinthine – journey of the fighter who spares no one.
Confronted with the difficulties of obtaining a sufficient number of doses, States are engaged in a real race for vaccines: who will be the first to get there? Save who can!
European countries, in particular, are acting in a scattered rather than concerted fashion in this vaccine strategy.
Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Sinovac… so many new names are invading our screens and our airwaves to describe the race – and the market – for vaccines, which is also being played out between pharmaceutical laboratories.
In the face of this failure, some voices are calling for vaccines to become global public goods. The international community is concerned that poor countries are being forgotten and is calling for better coordination, as provided for in the COVAX system set up by the UN. “In the race for the COVID-19 vaccine, win or lose, it will be together,” warn WHO and UNICEF leaders in a joint statement.
