The International Convention on the Rights of the Child is now 30 years old. On 20 November 1989, the United Nations adopted the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, which recognizes children as human beings in their own right, with fundamental, compulsory and non-negotiable rights: the right to be cared for, to go to school, to be fed, to be protected from all forms of abuse and exploitation, not to wage war, nor to suffer it… The consensus is unprecedented: it is the most widely and rapidly ratified human rights treaty in history!
Thirty years later, what about the rights of the child? This is the question that Cartooning for Peace addresses in 120 press cartoons in the book “Les droits de l’enfant, c’est maintenant“, published by Gallimard Publishing, in partnership with Amnesty International.
It will also be the focus of the event « Celebrating 30 years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child » organised on 20 November by the European Parliament, in which Cartooning for Peace will play an important role….
