Cartooning for Peace celebrates this symbolic date every year with cartoons and actions, participating in the Normandy World Forum for Peace (September 23 and 24) and publishing the Practical Guide for the Protection of Press Cartoonists 2022.
This year, the United Nations wanted to place this day under the sign of the fight against racism: “End racism. Building peace”. But as the United Nations General Assembly opens in New York (September 19-24), it is the war in Ukraine that occupies all the attention since it crystallizes the increasingly clear trend of a polarized world.
However, this is not the only major challenge facing the international community: “Our world is scarred by war, stricken by climate chaos, bruised by hatred, shamed by poverty and inequality,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who warned of the risk of “a winter of global discontent.
This is an exciting outlook and a busy agenda for the UN!
