The intense heat waves that have been hitting Europe for several days have caused huge fires in several countries (Spain, France, Greece, Italy and the United Kingdom in particular), with a total of more than 5 000 km2 of land ravaged by flames. Experts are alarmed that the situation is “worse than expected”, as the area burnt already exceeds that of the whole of 2021.
Firefighters are not having a break trying to counter the mega-fires and the European Union is adopting emergency measures by purchasing new aircraft for the anti-fire fleet.
Scenarios that are becoming the norm as a direct result of global warming…
