One year ago, the assassination of Samuel Paty, a history-geography teacher at the Bois d’Aulne secondary school (Conflans Sainte-Honorine), which occurred on October 16, 2020, once again plunged France into mourning.

On that day, it was not only the freedom of expression but also the freedom to teach that was under attack. Terrorism, inadmissible in itself, is all the more so when it affects the republican school, where secularism guarantees our freedoms, our cultural diversity and our social cohesion.

One year later, we do not forget Samuel Paty and, with him, all the teachers who work every day to open the minds of young generations.

Since that day, Cartooning for Peace has continued to strengthen its educational activities in schools, particularly by supporting education professionals in raising awareness of freedom of expression, through the “Pedagogy through press cartoons and fundamental freedoms” program.
