Middle East: Will there be peace soon?

Clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police have broken out since Friday 7 May on the Mosque Esplanade in Jerusalem, following the threat of eviction of Palestinian families in favour of Israeli settlers in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood (East Jerusalem). Hamas retaliated by firing rockets into Israeli territory and the IDF responded with air strikes on the Gaza Strip.
In ten days, the death toll has been very high: more than 200 dead in Gaza, including 61 children, and 10 victims in Israel, including one child, as of May 18.
The UN Security Council met urgently several times without reaching a joint declaration, due to the reluctance of the United States, an ally of Israel. Joe Biden, pressed by the left wing of the Democratic Party, nevertheless called for a “ceasefire”. On the night of May 21, under the auspices of Egypt, Israel and Hamas agreed on a truce. For how long?
