On Tuesday, January 28, President Donald Trump presented his “peace plan” for the Middle East at the White House in the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu.
A plan concocted at length by his son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner, which the American president announced as the “agreement of the century … win-win”, which Netanyahu welcomed … and which the Palestinians were quick to reject.
Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority, who was not invited to the negotiations, immediately denounced a “conspiracy”. And for good reason! The U.S. plan may pose a two-state solution… but above all it calls for Israel’s annexation of the Jordan Valley and settlements in the Palestinian Territories and recognition of Jerusalem as the sole capital of Israel, thus flouting international law.
With this plan, one thing is certain: peace between Israelis and Palestinians is not for tomorrow …
