Make America smile again ?

Editorial published on January 21, 2021

This is the wish that we all wish for, as Joe Biden, 46th President-elect of the United States, was inaugurated yesterday, January 20, in Washington, D.C., in unprecedented conditions: under the mask and without a crowd, since the pandemic is hitting the country hardest, by far the most devastated. Under high surveillance and in the presence of thousands of soldiers of the National Guard, following the recent riots on Capitol Hill. But above all without handing over to the outgoing president, who boycotted the ceremony, preferring to fly by helicopter to his private club Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, rather than shake hands with his successor, as is the tradition.
Barely installed in the Oval Office, Joe Biden has already signed a series of decrees announcing the color: return of the United States to the Paris climate agreement, end of the withdrawal of the WHO and the wearing of the mandatory mask in federal buildings, suspension of the construction of the wall with Mexico and the “Muslim ban” … Enough to turn the page on the Trump mandate. Will it succeed in unifying a fractured country, where trumpism seems to be deeply rooted?
