The United States releases 61 billion dollars to help Ukraine

“This is what it means to be a global superpower”. It was with this thundering statement that Joe Biden concluded his announcement of a $95 billion military aid plan for his allies in Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, of which $61 billion is earmarked for Ukraine. This colossal budget was approved by the US President on 23 April after several months of debate and deadlock in Congress and the House of Representatives, where the Republicans had long opposed it.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the decision on Tuesday, which was accompanied by the immediate resumption of deliveries of anti-aircraft equipment and vehicles. However, he was quick to point out that the delays and pauses of recent weeks have been very costly on the frontline, where Russian pressure continues unabated. For more than two years, he has been calling on the West to provide more effective aid, without which Ukraine would be condemned to defeat.
