Jamal Khashoggi Affair: Saudi Arabia Caught up in the Turmoil

Editorial published on October 19, 2018

The Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi (opponent of the regime and living in exile in the United States since 2017 where he worked for the newspaper The Washington Post) has been missing since October 2nd, after visiting the consulate of his country in Istanbul for administrative paperwork.

The investigation reveals that the journalist and critic of the regime was sordidly dismembered with a chainsaw, and seems to place Mohammed Ben Salman, the Saudi Crown Prince, at the heart of all suspicions.

This sinister and revolting fact brings to light two things: first of all, the diplomatic hypocrisy that surrounds Saudi Arabia, the first oil producing country and champion in the purchase of weapons… Secondly the schizophrenia of a regime which actually hides a disturbing authoritarianism behind its recent liberalization reforms (especially for women).
