From one war to the next

While the eyes of the world have been riveted on the Middle East since the outbreak of war between Hamas and Israel on 7 October, the war in Ukraine continues in full swing and Putin continues to move his pawns. While the United States and most EU countries are maintaining their firm support for Ukraine, the Ukrainian counter-offensive is struggling, deliveries of arms and munitions from Kiev’s allies are slow, doubts are being raised within certain governments, and Slovakia has just ended its military aid… The crisis in the Middle East, which is weakening the Western bloc in the eyes of part of the world, could be used to the advantage of the Kremlin, which wishes to position itself at the prow of a new “Global South” alongside China. All these issues are on the agenda of the European Summit that opened yesterday in Brussels, where the 27, divided over the Middle East conflict, have so far only managed to agree on a request for a “humanitarian pauses” and the establishment of a “humanitarian corridor”.
