Recent World Health Organization (WHO) forecasts cast a shadow over the picture: As countries gradually enter the phase of economic deconfinement and recovery, the WHO said May 13 that the virus “may well become endemic, and never go away. Very cautious about vaccine expectations, the organization said that all scenarios must be prepared for. Many months will still pass between the production of a vaccine and its mass distribution, with no full guarantee of success. Pool immunity is also not a viable alternative, according to recent studies. Containing the epidemic through testing remains the only viable option, according to the WHO.
We will therefore have to learn to live with it: to go out, eat, work, learn… with it. All of which will make us think deeply about the human condition.
