21 September: an international day of peace, under the banner of the sustainable development goals

On Thursday 21 September, the world celebrates the 42nd International Day of Peace. In addition to a general call for non-violence and a ceasefire for one hour, the UN, which is currently holding its General Assembly (19-23 September), is this year inviting reflection and action around the 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), which are intrinsically linked to peace in the world. The fight against poverty, access to education, gender equality, natural resource management, environmental protection, international cooperation and justice are all objectives on which peace depends. Most of them are improving, but are still a long way from their goal. The war in Ukraine, the instability in the Sahel, the rise of authoritarian regimes, the migratory and ecological crises… are daily reminders that coordinated and concrete action by all the countries of the world is more necessary than ever.
