Oliphant began his career in 1952 in Australia at the Adelaide News. In 1964 he emigrated to the United States and started at the Denver Post.
He won the Pulitzer Prize for press cartoons in 1967 and seven times the Press Cartoon Award from the National Society of Cartoonists.
