In June 2026, Cartooning for Peace organised a two-day workshop centred on the educational resource ‘Artificial Intelligence: Rights First!’, in partnership with the DTPJJ78.
This workshop offered young people under the supervision of the Youth Justice Service (PJJ) the opportunity to reflect on the issues surrounding artificial intelligence, with a focus on human rights. Through interactive workshops and discussions with youth journalist Olivia Villamy and political cartoonist Truant, participants were able to debate, develop their critical thinking skills and explore the issues surrounding AI.
Particular attention was paid to representations of the suburbs and their residents, as seen through the lens of AI. The young people analysed the stereotypes associated with ‘the suburbs’ and the algorithmic biases that reproduce and reinforce these representations. They then took part in a ‘prompt battle’, the aim of which was to counter these biases.
The workshop concluded with the creation of their own editorial cartoons, enabling them to convey their messages on current affairs and the uses of AI.
