As it does every year, Cartooning for Peace is joining forces with the Platform to strengthen the protection of journalism and the safety of journalists by contributing to its annual report with a rich selection of press cartoons from its network, in order to illustrate and highlight this shared fight for press and media freedom.
Written by the Platform’s partner organizations, a coalition of fifteen press freedom NGOs and journalists’ associations, the report analyzes the main legal, political, and practical developments affecting media freedom and the safety of journalists in Europe, and proposes measures to improve their protection.
Launch conference: March 3, 2026
Launched in 2015, the Platform for the Safety of Journalists is the result of collaboration between the Council of Europe and a network of 15 leading press freedom organizations and journalists’ associations.
Its main objective is to serve as a real-time mechanism for monitoring and addressing threats against journalists and media professionals, ranging from harassment and physical attacks to legal and political pressure.
The platform works by collecting and verifying alerts on serious threats to media freedom and the safety of journalists. These alerts, submitted by the platform’s partner organizations, are published to raise awareness among national authorities and encourage them to take action. By making these alerts public, the platform seeks to ensure accountability and encourage member states to uphold their commitments under the European Convention on Human Rights to protect freedom of expression.
