Lundi 27 novembre, l’Union européenne a donc tranché l’épineuse question : la licence du glyphosate, notamment contenu dans le controversé herbicide « Rondup » de Monsanto, a été renouvelée pour 5 ans. La majorité qualifiée requise a été atteinte (18 pays ont voté pour, 9 contre et un pays s’est abstenu). C’est Berlin qui a fait peser la balance en faveur du vote, tandis que Paris regrette ce résultat et appelle la Commission européenne à rapidement revoir sa position.
La pression des ONG, des associations, des nombreux citoyens mobilisés contre l’utilisation de cette substance chimique, jugée néfaste pour la santé et l’environnement (quand bien même les experts scientifiques sont partagés sur sa nocivité) n’aura pas eu gain de cause face à la force des lobbies industriels.
