On 28 November 2024, Vaulx-en-Velin‘s Territorial Plan to Combat Racism, Anti-Semitism and Discrimination celebrated its 10th anniversary. To mark the occasion, a day of exchange and review was organised at the Charlie Chaplin Cultural Centre in the presence of the signatory partners of the plan, including Cartooning for Peace.
In the morning, two workshop-debates were organised around the exhibition “Draw me Gender Equality” in the presence of Marie Morelle, a cartoonist from the network.
Around twenty people took part, including young people from the local mission, elected representatives, city officials and local residents.
In the early afternoon, all the partners met to discuss potential synergies between their actions in the area.
At the end of the afternoon, a round table discussion led by Richard Schittly, journalist at Le Progrès and Le Monde correspondent in Lyon, was held at the Centre culturel Charlie Chaplin on the issue of the media’s responsibility in the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and discrimination. Kak, President of Cartooning for Peace and press cartoonist for L’opinion, Franc tireur and Le film français, also took part.
Cartooning for Peace has been working in the region for 5 years to raise awareness among education professionals of the educational value of press cartoons, and to help young people in the city, both in and out of school, to develop critical thinking skills, deconstruct prejudice and raise awareness of human rights.
Cartooning for Peace receives the 2024 Prize from the French Coalition for Cultural Diversity for its “Draw me Gender Equality” project with the city of Vaulx-en-Velin.
