The dissolution of the National Assembly decided by Emmanuel Macron on the very evening of the European election results, and the announcement of legislative elections just 30 days later, are sowing chaos in the French political landscape. Widely misunderstood, including by part of the presidential camp, this decision gives the far right, led by Rassemblement National, the opportunity to win a majority in the National Assembly and govern the “land of enlightenment”.
Faced with this risk, the main parties on the left, though reputedly irreconcilable, decided to form an emergency alliance under the historic symbol of the Front Populaire. On the right, the president of the Républicains, Eric Ciotti, has fractured his party by joining forces with the Rassemblement National… Many representatives of the voluntary sector and sports and artistic personalities are taking the floor to urge people to join forces against the far right, or at the very least against “the extremes”. At the end of this fast-paced and eventful campaign, the already hard-pressed French will have to go to the polls on 30 June and 7 July to elect a majority capable of governing the country.
